Recognizing this, Hinds Community College has developed several outstanding partnerships with industry leaders in the region. These partnerships provide private investment, equipment and instructors to help create training programs in the region’s targeted industries.

Hinds Diesel Technology Academy

One of Rankin County’s key targeted industries is Automotive Manufacturing. Companies in the sector can be ensured they have the skilled and available workforce needed to keep up with growing labor demands. Hinds Community College partnered with Stribling Equipment, a major leading construction equipment company, to create the Hinds Diesel Technology Program. This program provides students with the opportunity to learn how to maintain and repair a variety of industrial diesel equipment, giving them the opportunity to receive an entry-level Diesel Technician position upon completion.

Those in the program are able to earn multiple industry-accredited certifications in a variety of concentrations over the course of 14 consecutive months. Courses are offered both day and night to accommodate those with varying schedules. Students enrolled in the program stand out from the competition due to their experience working with leading industry experts on industry-comparable equipment. Students receive one-on-one time with their instructors, hands-on training in a variety of specialties and preparation to obtain a high-quality job upon graduation.

“The partnership that Hinds has developed between Empire and Stribling and John Deere has made the end product coming out of the school better than its ever been before. The instructors at Hinds are certified by family trucks in North America in certain areas so that when they graduate, they actually have a certification that adds value to them and to the employer. So the value to the student is huge. He is marketable now and the value to the employer is I don’t have to spend that money, because this guy’s coming to work for me, and he’s already got these certifications.”
